The Broschtkriibslaf: Over 20 Years of Commitment, Prevention, and Solidarity
Europa Donna Luxembourg, the European Coalition Against Breast Cancer, was founded in 2002 by an oncologist and his patient. The Broschtkriibslaf, a race against breast cancer, was the first major project and has since become an annual tradition held on the first Saturday of October, as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
It was initially organized in Luxembourg City Park, starting at the Glacis, then in the Pétrusse Valley, starting at the Neimënster, and since 2022, it has taken place in the beautiful Hesperange Park.
Over the years, the Broschtkriibslaf has become a space for meeting and sharing where patients, families, healthcare professionals, volunteers, partners, and citizens come together in a shared spirit.
Together, we are raising awareness about breast cancer, supporting those affected by the disease, and contributing to building a more informed, inclusive, and health-conscious society.
The Broschtkriibslaf is one of Europa Donna Luxembourg's flagship events. Much more than just a fun run or walk, it has become a true civic movement, bringing together more than two thousand participants around strong values: prevention, solidarity, hope, inclusion, and commitment to those affected by breast cancer.
Through this event, Europa Donna Luxembourg aims to raise public awareness about the importance of taking care of one's health throughout life. The Broschtkriibslaf campaign highlights the essential role of physical activity, recognized as a major factor in preventing many chronic diseases, including certain cancers. It also emphasizes the importance of early detection, self-monitoring, a balanced diet, psychological well-being, and a healthy lifestyle.
The Broschtkriibslaf fully reflects the mission of Europa Donna Luxembourg: to inform, raise awareness, support, and represent people affected by breast cancer in Luxembourg. It helps break the taboos that still surround the disease and promotes a society where everyone can find support, guidance, and information when faced with cancer.
The funds raised enable the development of concrete prevention, information, and support initiatives, while also supporting projects aimed at improving the quality of life for those affected.
